What Is Wayfinder?
Wayfinder is a live NHS digital service that enables patients to manage elective care through the NHS App. By surfacing appointment data, referral information, and pre-operative readiness features, Wayfinder improves accessibility and helps reduce wait times, Did Not Attends (DNAs), and clinical cancellations.
Now live across 112 NHS trusts, Wayfinder has been used more than 118 million times.

Designed for Impact
What sets Wayfinder apart is its bold approach to sustainability. In collaboration with Greener NHS, Servita delivered the first carbon modeling for a live NHS service — quantifying the environmental benefits of digitising patient engagement.
Key outcomes include:
- 13,902 tCO2e savings from reducing paper letters.
- 8.5 ktCO2e avoided via reduced DNAs.
- 1,114 tCO2e annual savings — equivalent to 50,000 outpatient trips.
- 15,247 kgCO2e saved through reduced phone calls.
Wayfinder was architected from the ground up for efficiency. Built on AWS using Kubernetes and NodeJS, the platform follows a stateless, compute-minimising design. The result: an energy-lean service delivering up to 99% less CO2e per transaction than traditional channels.
