As part of the nation’s response to the elective care backlog crisis, NHSx commissioned a programme of work to connect secondary and acute care providers with the NHS App in a way that:

  • Provides App Users with the ability to make/amend/cancel hospital appointments
  • Provides App Users with appointment information e.g. wayfinding, average wait times to appointment depending on the patient pathway
  • Provides App Users with the ability to submit perioperative questionnaires and receive/download documents

We produced a cloud-hosted, secure platform to perform under huge volumes of load (38M users).

The Solution

Servita were appointed as the delivery partner to NHSx and NHS Digital, and immediately set about designing a cloud-hosted, secure platform that could perform under huge volumes of load (over 38M users).

Servita leveraged in-depth knowledge of NHS Trust systems (EPR and PAS), patient portals, e-Referral Service and clinical datasets and built a state-of-the-art elastic data platform that auto-scales horizontally and vertically.

The delivery approach was agile, DevOps and the foundations of the platform are built using MongoDB (DocumentDB), node.js, EKS, Kubernetes and Dockerised containers, the same foundations we would look to leverage for the PATH-SAFE data system.
